Children will enjoy the scenic beauty in the city of Nuwara Eliya. The tea gardens that extend over a large area of land are the most important and popular attractions of Nuwara Eliya. Another excellent place is the World’s End. The most wonderful thing that you can find crabs in a pond located at a height of 6000ft and a waterfall nearby.

The town of Nuwara Eliya combines the traditional Sri Lankan culture and colonial history. Some local and traditional festivals are also arranged in Nuwara Eliya from time to time. You can also get to see numerous cultural events in the local festivals like Unduvap Full Moon Poya Day. This fascinating Buddhists festival is arranged on the Adam’s Peak in the month of December every year. The Pongal is another well known festival of Sri Lanka is held in the month of January. One will get to know the Sri Lankan culture.

The city of Nuwara Eliya is full of wonderful landscapes. If you are a lover of nature then must visit the Horton Plains Natural Parks at the base town. This is basically a grassy plain that has numerous wildlife species such as Sambar, Leopard, yellow-eyed bull and many more. Lake Gregory is another significant natural landscape that attracts a lot of tourists every year. You can also go rowing and boating in this lake. To get a panoramic view of Sri Lanka and enjoy the mesmerizing sunset you can climb the Adam’s Peak or Sri Pada. 

This is a small park of Nuwara Eliya and is the main attraction of the city. Though there is nothing much to see you can just visit the park and therefore you sit and relax. The garden has a huge collection of variety of flowers. A children’s park is also there with a mini train and other play equipments. There are pools in the park and the lotus further adds to its beauty. You can enjoy a nice walk in the evening.

This is of the famous botanical gardens of Sri Lanka and is located at Nuwara Ellia- Badulla main road. This is also the second largest botanical garden of Sir Lanka. It is under the maintenance of the Hakgala Strict Nature Reserve. This is situated 5,400 feet above the sea level and enjoys a cool temperate climate that attracts thousands of visitors year. The garden was initially established to cultivate cinchona but was later replaced by tea cultivation. A famous folklore says that the Demon King Ravana offered Sita this garden as a pleasure garden and kept her hidden here after abducting.

An museum near Newara Eliya that is constructed within the Galle Fort in a Dutch warehouse located above the Old Gate of the fort. It is reported that the building and the museum, both survived the 2004 tsunami but the most of the maritime archeological artifacts were lost during the flood. It was then renovated with the assistance of the Royal government of Netherland and was reopened to the public after three years from the incident. 

The Galle National Museum is just a few kms away from Nuwara Eliya. It was constructed in 1656 in one of the Dutch buildings of the Galle Fort. It is well known for preserving the local cultural and traditional heritage of Sri Lanka. Numerous anthropological and archeological relics found in the southern part of the country are stored here. You can also see interesting jewe objects that are made of turtle shells.

You can find quite a good number of archaeologically protected monuments in Sri Lanka. Nuwara Eliya is famous for its Buddhist monuments. Madanwala Cave Temple located in the district of Madanwala is a must visit for everyone. The ancient Vishnu Devalaya in Hanguranketa is also another important archeological monument of Nuwara Eliya. The district of Hanguranketa is also famous for an ancient library which also forms an important sight-seeing. You can take out a single day from your travel plan and visit Hanguranketa and cover all the important monuments there including the Ancient Pattinidevalaya. The other popular archeological monuments of Nuwara Eliya are the Ancient image house and rock inscriptions of Wilwala, The ancient Pattini Devalaya at Attanakumbura, the ancient palace at Yatihanguranketa, the ancient Vihara at Wegama and lot more.
