It stands on a stony island called Kurte. This fort, literally meaning ‘Ocean Fort’, was built in the year 1664 AD by the great Maratha warrior Shivaji. It is proved that 3000 workers were hired for three years to construct this fort. The Sindhudurg Fort is the most excellently preserved forts of the Marathas.
