National Monument located in Amsterdam is a 22 m high imposing structure at Dam Square. Built-in 1956 to the memory of victims of World War II, in 2009 it became a heritage monument. It is a regular reminder of atrocities that people faced during the war and the loved ones they lost. The structure remains the focal point on May 4 celebrations, the Remembrance Day, which is a national event. On this day, the members of the royal family join the locals to pay their homage to lives lost unnecessarily.

Delta Works

American Civil Engineers Society chose Delta Works as one among the 7 modern architectural wonders. Construction on this structure began in the year 1958 in South Holland and Zeeland provinces as a protection against flooding. This ingenious construction includes surge barriers against storms, dikes, sluices, locks, and dams Tourists who come here can now visit the dams constructed here and learn about their work.
