Places to Visit in St Petersburg

The S.H. Kress and Co. Building, which is a historical building, the Mahaffey Theater Complex, the American Stage, the Palladium Theatre are a few to name while there are many famous monuments in St. Petersburg.

The Holocaust Museum that exhibits age-old artifacts, the Salvador Dali Museum which stores the masterpieces of eminent painter Salvador Dali, the Museum of Fine Arts that exhibits a collection from the eras before to the current day and a few more are the famous museums of St. Petersburg.

St. Petersburg had the famous Madame Tussaud’s Wax Museum between 1963 -1989.

The Great Exploration, the famous and one of the finest museum for children, located 1952, 4th Street North is a must visit for children. Established in 1986, it is a preschool along with being a program centre. The architecture of this building is similar to the P. Buckley Moss Museum and the Salvador Dali Museum. The Great Exploration Museum is a hand on one which exhibits a Tyrannosaurus Rex made up of recycled scrap materials in its parking lot. It also has a 27m long ‘Touch Tunnel’ so that the children can explore the museum on by using touch as a tool of navigation.

The museum has a ‘Fit4 All Kids Ville’ to teach the basics of health, hygiene and nutrition, a tree house where children can play the various roles of making one called ‘I Can Construct’; a veterinary clinic to teach children to care about animals and a lot more. They also conduct summer camps, workshops birthday parties and scouts and hence it is a favorite place of the kids.

The Sunken Garden, the heaven of the botanical world, the Fort De Soto Park, the Weedon Island Preserve, the Egmont Key State Park, the Passage Key National Refuge are some of the most visited parks in St. Petersburg.

It is mostly the sea and the sand that has its own charm but St. Petersburg has greenery too that suits its climatic conditions. The palm trees, various kinds of flowers, a variety of shrubs, bushes and trees make St. Petersburg a mix of yellow and green that contours the eye for good.

The First Methodist Church of St. Petersburg, also called the First United Methodist Church of St. Petersburg, is a religious place of high importance and has architecture of historical significance.

Other than the Church, every cluster of inhabitants from other religions have their own religious places.

Many famous movies like that of Once Upon a Time in America (1984), Cocoon (1985), Summer Rental (1985), Ocean’s 11 (2001), Spring Breakers (2011) etc have been shot in St. Petersburg.
