Schaffhausen does not have an airport. The nearest airport is in Zurich. You can fly down to Zurich and then travel onwards to Schaffhausen. Zurich Airport is the largest airport in Switzerland, and it is well-connected to other cities and countries too by regular international flights. The national carrier Swiss International Airlines operates numerous flights here.
If you are travelling by car and coming from Zurich, then you can take the A4 or the E41 in the North direction.
Schaffhausen is best accessed by train. There are regular trains that leave from Zurich, which arrive at Schaffhausen via other stops. If you have an all-zone Zurich pass, the train ticket costs considerably less.
By Walking
The old town is a vehicle-free zone which means you can only walk around there to explore it. However, it’s a relatively small place and you will be charmed by the sights and will hardly find it strenuous.
By Bicycle
You can rent e-bikes or city bikes outside the Schaffhausen train station and use these to explore the city.
By Bus
Local buses are used to travel to various points in the city. However, do note that they will not ply in the Old Town.
