Housed in two buildings and across five floors, the museum traces the ancient history of Scotland to the late 20th century.  Located in Chambers street, the museum is the dominant feature of the street and is frequented by tourists and locals.  The older section houses loads of artifacts from imperial regimes around the world.

Designed by William Playfair, the gallery is a classic Victorian building which has been restored to its original glory.  It contains a large collection of European art and frescoes from the Renaissance to the post-Impressionism period.

The food and drink scene in Edinburgh is one of the best in Europe and travellers here will get a taste of all international cuisines.  Cafes, restaurants around the Old Town not only offer a relaxed atmosphere but a great way to soak up the surrounding views.  The city’s oldest pub in operation since the mid 16th century is famous for hosting Robert Burns, William Wordsworth. Apart from the city center and the Old Town, the Leith and West and areas too have several famous pubs and restaurants.

The Scottish people have a special liking for fried food. Hence dishes all deeply fried such as hamburgers, pizza, haggis, Mars bars are extremely popular. A special mention for a type of blood sausage known as fried black pudding is a special mention.For tourists who know their drinks, nothing is more famous or better than the famous Scotch whiskey available in every pub and bar across the city.

Princess Street in New Town is the primary shopping centre with departmental, designer stores and boutiques.  Victoria Street in the Old Town has a large number of stores catering to tourists. Victoria Street leads onto Grassmarket which was the site for the cattle market during medieval times.  The place is now a teeming square full of shops, restaurants, cafes and bars.

The Scottish Parliament building located in the OldTown, opposite the HolyroodPalace, is a unique building designed by the Spanish architect EnricMiralles. Visitors can buy tickets to watch the Scottish Parliament in session. 

This monument was constructed in 1846 and dedicated to Sir Walter Scott, the famous Scottish poet after his death in 1932. This monument built in Gothic style architecture allows visitors to enjoy panoramic views of the city after climbing up 200 feet above the city center.

One of the newer attractions in the city, the floating holiday home of the British royal family sees a steady throng of visitors round the year.  Tourists can view the royal apartments and gifts offered to the royals by visiting dignitaries.

Built in the 15th century the magnificent cathedral dominates much of Edinburgh’s High Street.  The interiors lack grandeur but have certain interesting sections.   One of the most interesting sections of the cathedral is the Thistle Chapel, built in 1911 for the Knights of the Most Ancient & Most Noble Order of the Thistle. The beautifully carved Gothic-style stalls have the canopies designed with the coat of arms of the 16 knights.
