Trimbakeshwar Tourism

Panchvati located on the banks of River Godavari is considered to be the most sacred place on the earth. According to the Ramayana, this was the place where Lord Rama along with his wife Seeta and brother Lakshman, stayed for the duration of his exile. The place is marked by the presence of five holy banyan trees and has other places of interest like The Seeta Gufa, which according to the legends was the place Lord Ram prayed to please Lord Shiva.

The Temple of Trimbakeshwar is one of the 12 Jyotirlings in India and hold a lot of religious value of the Hindus. It is a famous pilgrimage destination visited by thousands of people every day. The deity of the temple is unique and is known to a swayambhu (Self Manifested). Another unique feature about the deity is that it has three faces, which indicate the three pillars of the Hindu Trinity called the Trimurti; namely The Creator Lord Brahma, The Preserver Lord Vishnu and The Destroyer Lord Shiva. The deity in the temple wears a crown studded with precious jewels which is said to have come the Pandavas from the epic Mahabharata. The Kushavartinside the temple complex is the place from where River Godavari takes course to the sea.

Shubham Water Park in Anjaneri is a very popular amusement park for children in the area and your kids would love a visit there. The park is situated about 8 kilometres from Trimbakeshwar and has some fun and exhilarating rides, swimming pools and water slides for children. They also have a wave pool where even you can relax. Apart from this there are not many places for children to take delight in. You may, however, take them for picnics and nature walks around Anjaneri and Brahmagiri.  You could also go to Nashik where there will be plenty for the children to see and enjoy.

Anjaneri Fort is one of the two major forts in the area. It is located in the Village Anjaneri, the fabled birth place of Lord Hanuman. The forthas been named after the mother of Lord Hanuman, Anjani. The fort is located at a height of 4200 feet above the sea level can be reached on foot, by using some stairs and trekking. There also some religious caves on the way to the fort. There is a temple of Anajani Mata on the peak of the hill and a small lake. The area is also dotted with several carvings from Jain Tirthankars and a statue of Lord Buddha.

The restaurants in Trimbakeshwar are not very fancy and have elaborate menus but they serve good, fresh and clean food. Some restaurants to consider are Padan Restaurant, Ujjwala Garden Restaurant, Hotel Akash Ganga Restaurant, Om SaiKripa Garden Restaurant and Hotel Shiv SaiVenkatesh Family Restaurant.

Most of the restaurants in Trimbakeshwar serve Maharashtrian fare and North Indian dishes. Some even cater to the Gujarati tourists who come to Trimbakeshwar. Some of the dishes not be missed while you are in Trimbakeshwar are Missal, Vada Pav, Farsaan and puranpoli.

Since Trimbakeshwar is a holy place, there are no clubs or discos in the town. You may want to head towards Nashik and Mumbai if you crave for an impressive nightlife. 

Most of the good hotels would have bar in their premises but if you would like to go out it would be a good idea to head towards Nashik, because there are no good standalone bars in Trimbakeshwar. 

The road leading to the Trimbakeshwar Temple is full of some small and makeshift shops which sell religious items, trinkets like bangles, rings and beads. Some also sell clothes, sea shells and handicrafts.

There are not many big stores in Trimbakeshwar, however, the Grih Nirmiti Super Market would be a good place to shop and buy essentials. 

Meditating and taking part in the religious ceremonies would be relaxing and would bring you calm and peace. If you are looking for Spas and other places to relax yourself then Nashik and Mumbai are places to be. 

Harihargad in Trimbak is a very popular base camp for a lot of treks in the area. Anjaneri and Brahmagiri are also very popular amongst trekkers in Maharashtra. 

This fort located in the in the village of Nirgudpada approximately 13 kilometres away. The fort is set atop a hillock and could be reached by trekking and taking very steep stairs to the location. It is a popular trek in the region. The fort was built between 1700 and 1800 and is very famous for its unique, almost perpendicular stairs.  The fort lies mostly in ruins except for one of the buildings called Darukothar. The main entrance of the fort called Mahadarwaja is also in a decent state.

Walks around Brahmagiri and Anjaneri would be idea. You could also have picnics at these spots and look at the Anjaneri Waterfall which is a major tourist attraction during the monsoons. You can also make a quick trip to Sula Wines Vineyard in Nashik and enjoy the beauty of the vineyard and indulge in wine tasting. 

Trimbakeshwar is a small place and there are not many landmarks in the town besides the Main Temple, its gate and the Kushavart, from where Godavari River takes course to the sea. The grand entrance to the temple is another major landmark in the town. 

Nasik is one of the four locations for the celebrated Kumbh Mela and attracts pilgrims in hordes during that time. During the Kumbh pilgrims take dips in the holy waters of Kushavart in the Trimbakeshwar Temple and Ramkund on the Banks of Godavari River depending on their sect. It is one of the biggest cultural and religious attractions of Trimbakeshwar. Besides the Kumbh Mela, The temple is the location of a lot of religious rituals like Kalsarpa Shanti, Narayan Nagabali and Tri Pindi Vidhi. The rituals are usually performed at the temple on request of the patrons and devotees, for special purposes. Most Hindu festivals are celebrated in Trimbakeshwar with special emphasis to celebration of the Maha Shivaratri. 

The Temple of Trimbakeshwar is nestled between beautiful green hills, next to the sparkling River Godavari. Hence, there is no dearth of natural beauty around the town. There are certain places, which have religious significance but are visited by the tourists for the sheer natural beauty. Anjaneri, the birthplace of Lord Hanuman, is situated 4264 feet above the sea level and can leave you amazed with its green rolling hills and tranquillity. Same goes to Brahmagiri, which happens to be ideal for a trek to the spring which is the source of the River Godavari. Another beautiful spot with lovely views is the Neel Parvat, which is one of the peaks of Brahmagiri Hills. Vihigaon Waterfall is located 55 kilometres from Trimbakeshwar and is a major natural attraction in the region.

There are several places around Trimbakeshwar which you could visit if you have time in hand. If you take a Trimbakeshwar holiday package, most these places would come bundled up with your travel package. If you want to visit more religious places you may make a short trip to Shirdi which is 116 kilometres away or Shani Shingnapur which is 172 kilometres. You may also visit Aurangabad which is 209 kilometres away from Trimakeshwar. From Aurangabad, you could perhaps have a look at the caves of Ajanta & Ellora and visit the temple of Ghrishneshwar. If you are in the mood of shopping and some really cool nightlife then Mumbai would be a perfect stopover for you. Mumbai is 176 kilometres from Trimbakeshwar.

There are no major parks and gardens in Trimbakeshwar, except the green meadows in Brahmagiri and Anjaneri. You could drive up to a short distance to Nashik and visit some fine parks like Nehru Forest Garden, Pelican Park and Golf Club Grounds in the city. The other option is to take guidance from the locals and your guide; or explore the town for parks.

About 8 kilometres from Trimbakeshwar, near Anjaneri is a very popular Coin Museum in the premises of the Indian Institute of Research in Numismatic Studies. The institute is famous for numismatic studies and research and boast of a large collection of books on the subject too. Besides this one can drive down to Nashik and visit some very good museums like the Artillery Museum, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited Museum and Gargoti Museum.
