Munsiyari Tourism

It is one of the best waterfalls that one can see in India, and it can be seen from a 10 kilometres afar on a sunny day. The fall is like an oasis in the Himalayas.It is a very refreshing sight and experience to watch the water fall from a height of 126 metres. The surroundings with lush greenery everywhere, it is an ideal kind of a place for picnics and lunches.

Company Garden in Mussoorie is a fantastic place for nature lovers and people interested in photography. It is so beautiful that it almost looks like a fairytale world, where you can have a gala time with your family and friends. You could enjoy a boat-ride or simply enjoy the beauty of the ambience.

Masterji or Dr SS Pangthi, a retired school-teacher, traveller and trekker, author with profuse knowledge about the Bhotias of the area, innovatively put together a little collection of antiques in a personal museum at his home town in Nansen Village. Other important exhibits are the authentic documents that facilitated trade between Tibet and Johar Valley and the individual effects of the traders. This place is surely worth a visit.

It is located in the middle of Munsiary town. This Museum has outstanding compilation of rich cultural heritage of the Johari people. The collections exhibit the ancient art and culture, life style, trade, and numerous antiques. There is a segment displaying ancient literature, documents and stamps issued by the Indian government paying respect to the local people. All the exhibits here are adequately explained to the tourists. The entrance fee is Rs. 10 per person.

Also known as the Advaita Ashram, it is said that Swami Vivekananda decided to the transfer the publication office of “Prabuddh Bharat” to Mayawati from Chennai when he visited Almora in 1898. The Ashram is located in a scenic surrounding and draws spiritualists from around the world

It was constructed by the 16th century rulers, the Chand dynasty and the deity here is also Lord Shiva. It is a very artistic temple in the Kumaon region and bring in evidence of the glory and aesthetic senses of the people back then and also the whole-hearted devotion towards God.

The restaurants are all associated with hotels that are found in this place, and fancy places for individual gourmet food should not be expected here. These restaurants serve Chinese, Indian, continental and Kumauni cuisines to satisfy your palette. The small dhabas in the village generally serve yummy Indian and Kumauni cuisines. Kulka is a very scrumptious local delicacy that is made of potatoes and flour fried in dhungar (a local herb). Wayfarer Retreat and KMVN Tourist Rest houses have good food to offer. You can also enjoy good local snacks and tea in the tea shops of the local markets after or in the middle of a long trek.

This place is more of religious and adventurous, and therefore,you will not find night clubs or pubs that disturb the calmness of the place. People here get tired after a long day of trekking, and therefore, hit the bed early to soak in nature in its purest form the next day. The nearest pub or discotheque would be at Mussoorie.

Munsiyari is not the place for indulging in exhorbitant shopping. However, you can make purchases like that of woollens made by locals or knickknacks handmade bytribals. Hand-woven carpets from the Munsiyari Main Market can be a good buy.

If you are inclined environmentally then you can carry back home the Himalayan tree saplings for own gardens.

Though this peak is visible from all the vantage points of Pithoragarh district, the most beautiful view is got only from Munsiyari in the Johar valley. The trek up to this peak is very difficult but adventurous.

Almost all the resorts of Munsiyari recommend adventure tours and treks to the hill base-camps and glaciers nearby. You can also hire adventure gears from the shops, if you are not prepared.

This temple is one of the Siddha Peeths, situated 21kilometres from Tanakpur. As per the mythological scriptures, father of Goddess Sati, Daksha Prajapati, organized a sacrificial ceremony here where everyone was invited except Lord Shiva. When Goddess Sati discovered about her father’s intention to humiliate her husband, she immolated herself in the sacrificial fire. Lord Shiva came in very angry and carried back his wife’s corpse, and Purnagiri is one place where one of her body part fell.

You can buy the most famous pashmina shawls here which is also a paradise for shoppers. Darkot is a charming village, only 6 kilometres away. Those who are culturally aesthetic will find pleasure in admiring the craftsmanship of the Kumaon people.

There is an interesting legend attached to this beautiful place, which is just a few kilometres away from Munsiyari. The pond, in its raw beauty, offers an implausible view of the Panchachuli Peak and is itself a wonderful piece of nature.

This magnificent peak is visible in full glory from all the points of Pithoragarh district. It has a never-to-miss captivating view that adds charm and delight to this picturesque place.

It is a huge garden full of Rhododendrons and is a model skiing slope in the winters. The lovely sunrise and sunset here merge with the hues of nature to offer mesmerising beauty and soothe to the eyes.

It is also called the gateway to Thamrikund and from here you get the first up-close view of the Panchachuli. Kalamuni might be a simple temple but highly regarded by the drivers. It is a peaceful and a calm place.

It is a good and easy trek to up here. It is a water pond and more than the destination the trail is all the more scenic and lovely. It is a lovely place for all nature lovers who seek a lake amidst hills.
