Bikaner Tourism

This is one of the oldest temples in Bikaner and was created near Laxminath temple in 1514A.D. It was the idea of the two brothers,Sandheswar  and Bhandeshwar, who eventually built this divine Jain Temple. This beautiful piece of architecture is dedicated to the twenty third teerthankar, namely Parsvanath Ji. This temple is carved in red sand stone and white marble.It is famous for carvings,wall paintings, structural beauty and inventively designed sculptures. The rich mirror work, decor and frescoes of Bhandashah and their gold leaf paintings are remarkable.

This is one of the oldest temples in Bikaner. Rao Bikaji laid the foundation stone in the year 1488 A.D. As it is a historical monument, it has a special identity in Bikaner. This temple was created during the reign of Rao Lunkaran and shows the superb archaeological skills of artists. It was later developed by Maharaja Ganga Singh Ji. Sculptures of Lord Vishnu and Goddess Laxmi have received the unwavering devotion of countless people through the last four and half centuries.

The architectural designs of the Gajner palace is truly exceptional. This palace is built in red sandstone with tortuously carved pillars, jharokhas and screens.The craftsmanship of this palace is amazing and unique. The palace is surrounded by beautiful wooden structures, which is now a well-preserved sanctuary. It provides shelter to chink Aras, blackbucks, blue bull (neelgai) and flocks of imperial sand grouse. One of the parts of the palace has been transformed into a hotel.

Junagarh fort was constructed by Raja Rai Singhji, the sixth ruler of Bikaner.He ruled from 1571 to 1612 AD. Raja Rai Singhji could organise the incomes of a Kingdom enlarged by the defeat of half Marwar and by the contribution of half Gujarat.  He used funds from Jodhpur and Western Deccan for building this massive fort. During his term, he travelled distances which gave him vision and great ideas about art and architecture.It is easily noticeable how precisely these ideas were unified in the architectural styles of his building in Junagarh fort.

The ruler of Bikaner followstherule of not letting their heritage to be used for commercial activity, and so no shops are permitted in the Fort. One of the magnificent architectural works in red stone was built by Maharaja Ganga Sing (1881 AD-1942 AD) in memory of his father Maharaja Lall Singh between 1902 -1926.This delightful palace is an example of pure Rajput martial architecture. To preserve the rich culture of Bikaner, Maharaja Narendra Singh Ji's present daughter opened a museum called Prachina, in October, 2000.Prachina is an effort to point out the aristocratic patronage which boomed and lasted in Bikaner. This museum thrives to create a cultural centre to recover the falling craft of Bikaner and combine it with the present life.

This temple was built by DungarSinghji in the late 19th century. The temple is bounded by an embattlement fence. It has four-faced black marble Shiva sculpture and a bronze Nandi facing the Shiva-Lingam. Also there are two large reservoirs of water known as bawaris near the temple.
