Viceroy Francisco da Gama, Vasco da Gama’s grandson, constructed this famous arch in Goa in 1597. Green granite and laterite was used in the making of this arch. The main purpose of building the arch was for commemorating Vasco da Gama – the great explorer. This Arch also served as the entrance to Old Goa.
