The most noteworthy museum in Sindhudurg is the Sawantwadi Palace. The Palace was once the home of the Bhosle Kings and later the rulers of Sawantwadi. This beautiful building was built between 1755 and 1803 using laterite stone. The heritage building has now been converted into a museum and houses artefacts, paintings and personal belongings like royal jewellery and garments. The museum houses one of the biggest collections of traditional lacquer ware in the country.
