Also known as the harvest festival, Pongal is a time of get together, celebration and festivities. Lasting up to 4 days, it happens during the month of January and marks the beginning of good times and is also like a way of showing gratitude to the sun god for a good harvest. People, especially farmers, buy new clothes, sweets and prepare delicacies and spread joy and happiness in their neighborhood.
