This part of Lima essentially belongs to the colonial part of the city. This is exactly the place which was founded by Francisco Pizarro in 1535. The northern part of this area is the home of the president of Peru, the Government Palace. On the east side of the Plaza is the Cathedral which was completed in 1622. The remains of the founder of the city is placed inside a small chapel within the cathedral inside a glass coffin.
