One of the oldest churches of daman, the Chapel of Our Lady of Rosary dates back to the 17th Century. Located in old Moti Daman Fort, this church is built in the ancient Gothic style. As one steps in the chapel, the otherwise deceptive looking chapel is indeed a treat to the eyes. The wood work of the Chapel is no less than breath taking. Rose petals with hundreds of colours and golden cherubs take perfection of the artwork to the zenith, also imbibing a sense of devotion and faith. One will find the illustration of stories from the blessed saints’ lives. It is said that the idol of Mary of Rosary was fixed on the altar as a gesture of thanksgiving by the Portuguese for escaping from the Maratha leader Shivaji and his forces.
