Go for Nature trails and Bird watching or better still go for the backwater cruise. The canal networks around the Vembanadlake prove to be an interesting area for tourists. You can enjoy the visual treat of a stretch of water interspersed by green paddy fields. There are coconut lagoons and village huts. You can actually spot villagers fishing or going about their daily chores, children going to school in boats, coconuts or coir products being carried in kettuvallams or rice barges. Another thrilling experience would be to see a flock of ducks going to the just harvested paddy fields to devour the leftovers.
If you are adventurous, you can actually go to a village for coconut water. Or better still visit the coir making factory. Or stop for lunch and try the local fish delicacies. The coconut toddy which is the local beverage should be tried too.
