There are two major museums in the country of Poland which are worth mentioning due to their ties to the bloody history of the land – the Majdanek State Museum and the Sobibor Museum. The former is a memorial museum and education centre founded during 1944 at the site of the Majdanek Concentration Camp. It was the first museum of its kind in the world and is devoted entirely to showcasing the memory of the atrocities committed in the network of slave labour camps and sub-camps during World War II. The museum performs various tasks including scholarly research into the Holocaust in Poland.
