Apart from the Hindu temples, there are also some Buddhist monasteries popularly known as Viharas to be found in Trincomalee. One is the weligamveheraseruwila raja mahavihara which is known to be a heritage site of Buddhist devotees. Another is the srigajabalenvihara which supposedly has ancient inscriptions in Brahmi. There is a site known to have limestone statues of Buddha at a sugar farm in kantalai. Another statue of Lord Buddha which is made out of marble is located at a site in Galmetiyawa. Etabendiwawa is a site where the ruins of ancient buildings are to be found. Other sites being Pulmodai and Kuchchaveli where the ancient caves are the special feature.
