MamleshwarTemple, situated in Mamal, lies at a separation of about a mile from Pahalgam. With its source going again to AD 400, this sanctuary has been a critical spot of pilgrimage in the area for quite a long time.
Lord Shiva is the primary god venerated in this antiquated temple. It is located on top of a mountain that lies along the banks of the glacialKolahoi stream. The temple premises have an old holy place, which was adorned with unadulterated gold under the rule of the then ruler.
As per myth connected with this temple, LordGanesha was designated as its doorkeeper to keep the section of pariahs. This is the manner by which the sanctuary got its name – involving words 'mam mal' that signifies 'don't go'. Owing to its religious centrality, the temple is visited by devotees all throughout the year, particularly during summers and Christmas.
