Another popular festival in this town, Lohri is celebrated on the date of 13th January every year. Celebrating the fertility of mother earth this occasion marks the end of winter season and the beginning of vibrant spring. It is celebrated with the taking of the winter harvest with great joy and enthusiasm. As is common with most Punjabi festivals this occasion is also accompanied by energetic dancing and singing especially around bonfires at night. People mainly worship the fire and a ritual of pouring puffed rice, sweets and popcorn into the flames are an important part of the festival’s practices.
