Lal Bagh is a renowned magnificent botanical garden that lies in southern Bengaluru. Spanning across 240 acres, this mesmerizing paradise with a vivid splash of colors is home to more than 1854 varieties of plants and trees. Declared a botanical garden in 1856 during the British Empire, the iconic venue is a major tourist attraction of Bengaluru and has a rich history attached to it.
Originally Lal Bagh was constructed as a private one by Hyder Ali, a famous ruler of Mysore in the year 1760. Initially, the garden had a Mughal touch to it, but as time swept by, the garden was then developed by Hyder Ali’s son Tipu Sultan. Moreover, the British and Indian specialists of horticulture also added their touch of eloquence. In the present scenario, Lal Bagh is under the patronage of the Directorate of Horticulture, a government of Bengaluru. Scores of tourists visit Lal Bagh and are allured by the majestic appeal as it nestles largest tropical plants and is home to a lake too.
The nearest airport is the Kempegowda International Airport. From the airport, Lal Bagh is about 37 kms.
The nearest bus station is the majestic bus stand. Botanical Garden Bus Stand is a local bus stop with limited bus frequency.
If you are traveling by road from Bengaluru to Lalbagh, the approximate distance is 5 kms. But if you enjoy traveling and savoring the journey, then from Chennai you can reach Lalbagh Botanical Garden, covering the distance of 344 kms, which takes about 6 hours. From Coimbatore to the garden, the distance is 362 kms and takes about 6 hours.
The nearest station to the garden is Mysuru railway station. Also, Malleswaram railway station is there but the only drawback is limited connectivity.
The timings are pretty convenient and people can visit the place between 6.00 a.m. to 7.00 p.m.

Lal Bagh has exotic species of plants from various parts of the world that include Agathis sp., Amherstia nobilis, Araucaria sp., Averrhoa bilimbi, Bambusa sp., Bixa orellana, Brownea grandiceps, Castanospermum australe, Cola acuminata, Corypha umbraculifera, Couroupita guianensis, Cupressus sp., Eriobotrya japonica, Magnolia sp. and Swietenia mahagoni.

• The glass door was developed in 1890 and is modelled like the Crystal Palace of London.
• The Peninsular Gneiss rock which is the oldest existing rock in the world has a small monument constructed on it which has won the recognition of National Geological Monument.
