Jijabai was the mother of the King of the Maratha Empire Shivaji Maharaj, and is always credited and appreciated for Shivaji's greatness. This palace holds a very important place in the Maratha kingdom's history. Known as a lady of high values, Jijabai lived in the Jijamata Palace till she died here. The remains of the ruins of this then grand mansion remains in the present day as this monument was, unfortunately, destroyed during the British rule in India. The Archaeological survey of India is the ones who now protect this remarkable monument. Near the ruins of the palace is where the Samadhi of Jijabai is situated. The entire fort is a magnificent structure which can be seen from the mere ruins of the palace.
