Formerly known as St Lucia Wetland Park, the park was aptly renamed as iSimangaliso which in Zulu language, means ‘miracle and wonder’. This park which is situated in the north-eastern coast of KZN, is the biggest estuarine system of South Africa. The park is known for as many as eight different ecosystems interwoven with each other and beautifully co-existing. These prominently include coral reefs, lakes, savanna, rivers filled with crocodile, tall coastal dunes, and swamplands, which unsurprisingly creates a convention of a variety of flora and fauna in the land. With 526 species of pretty birds, rhinos, crocodiles, loggerhead and leatherback turtles, hippos and leopards. The interesting ecosystem of the park allows you to combine a typical wildlife safsari with many thrilling adventure activities of marine reverse like fishing, snorkelling, kayaking and diving.

How to reach: The nearest international airport is King Shaka International Airport in Durban, while the closest regional airport is at Richards Bay. You can hire a car or drive yourself from here to reach the park.
