Rice preparation like idli is very popular in this region. This is mostly served with a lentil soup containing several kinds of vegetable, and is known as sambar. Fish is very popular among the people of this region as it is always found in abundance. Karimeen, prawn curry and curried forms of crabs are much relished. On special occasions, sadya is served which is a complete meal and is served on a banana leaf. It comprises of several vegetarian servings served along with rice, fried pappadams, chutney and payasam.
