When you ask most of the persons about Darjeeling, the first thing that you get to hear about generally is the Toy Train travelling across the wide tracks and merging into the horizon. And yes, the first in the list of major attractions in Darjeeling is the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway or the Toy Train. The history of the train can be traced back to the 1880s. Today, it is one of the few hill railways that is operating in the country. Moreover, it is also listed in the UNESCO World Heritage Site and is only the second railway to feature in the prestigious list. Do not mistake it to be just a toy train, as it also connects a number of hill towns to New Jalipaiguri through its steam service. During the peak season, you can also take a joy ride on the train.
