One of the festivals of North East India that you can't give a miss is the Bihu festival of Assam. This festival is celebrated in three phases that mark a particular period of the agricultural calendar. The biggest among these is the Bohaag Bihu or the Rongali Bihu which marks the seeding time and the beginning of their new year in mid-April. The second one is the Kaati Bihu, which includes the lighting of lamps to guide souls to heaven in mid-October. The end of the harvest season is marked by Maagh Bihu or the Bhogali Bihu which contains bonfires, buffalo wars, and pot breaking in mid-January.
