Bhimbetka In Madhya Pradesh

Bhimbetka, which was declared a World Heritage Site in 2003, is known for its intriguing rock shelters that show traces of the earliest known life in the Indian continent. It has about 500 caves that feature rock paintings which are estimated to be over 30,000 years old and mark the beginning of the Stone Age of South Asia. Some of the geometric patterns found here are believed to be from the medieval period and the colours used in these paintings is natural and vegetable derived.
