The city has the largest port in the country and is referred to as "Egypt's Window to the Mediterranean." How to reach: The city is a 2.5 hours road trip from Cairo, and there is a direct train from Luxor to Alexandria. The best way to tour the city is to book a tour from with Cairo or Luxor that will include all your transfers.
