Abbey of Santa Maria is another primary attraction of Alcobaça. It was built to celebrate the victory against the Moors. It is the country’s largest church and a marvelous heritage monument with exceptionally good architecture. It has been declared as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. The architecture is Gothic in style and comprises 7 dormitories, a library and 5 cloisters. The Abbey is much more beautiful from the interior than the exterior.
