King Badis of the Zirid Dynasty built The Alcazaba Fortress in the year 1040. He built this castle in order to safeguard the royal family from the invaders of other regions. This is among the best and well-preserved castle in the region till date that is situated on the highest tip of the hill. The castle or fortress built using the remains of a Roman theater that lay adjoining the construction and was built by the Moorish Muslim rulers.
