Commonly referred to as the Heavenly Abode, the ashram with its picturesque backdrop of the Himalayas is a great destination. Considered as the Ground Zero of Rishikesh, there are hundreds of temples, ashrams and healthy vegetarian restaurants to explore. 

One of the most revered shrines of Lord Shiva, this ancient temple is located at the confluence of River Madhumati and River Pankaja. Apart from being a popular pilgrimage site, one must visit the temple to view the intricately carved shrine. 

Camp Gold Coast lies in close proximity to the Hindu pilgrimage site of Rishikesh which houses many Hindu temples and ashrams. Also, one can visit Shivpuri a few kilometres away from the location. One can also drive down to picturesque Kuflon, approximately 6 hours’ drive from Camp Gold Coast. The stunning view of the Himalayas and the innumerable freshwater falls make the travel experience worth every penny. If you are backpacking and have no vehicle of your own then opt to travel on one of the morning buses which run on a daily basis from Rishikesh.

If you have the luxury of time, then you can also trek down to picturesque Valley of Flowers ion National Park located in the foothills of the Western stretch of Himalayas. Known for harbouring a variety of endangered animals such as the snow leopard and the musk dear, the Valley of Flowers can be a nature lover’s delight. Also, lying in close proximity is the Nanda Devi National Park which is listed in the UNESCO World Network of Biosphere Reserve.

Camp Gold Coast gives you easy access to the famous LakshmanJhula in Rishikesh. An iron suspension bridge over the holy river Ganges, this is a landmark site named after Lakshmana, the younger brother of Hindu Lord Rama. According to the scriptures, Lakhsmana crossed the holy river on jute ropes at this particular site.

Few kilometres away from the LakshmanaJhula is the Ram Jhula which is around 450 feet long. Both of these magnificent bridges are the highlights of the town and must not be missed while at Camp Gold Coast. 

For a taste of local cuisine, try the Chotiwala Special at the Chotiwala at the Swarg Ashram. This mainly includes 5 different ‘thalis’ and are reasonably priced at INR 100. Another place worth visiting is the Ganga Ayurvedic Food Place near the VedNiketan Ashram. The place is known for its sumptuous breakfasts.

For tourists who stay away from Indian food, one can opt for Little Italy which has pasta and pizza in their menu. That is not all! Opt for a meal at the Ramana’s Garden which is known to serve only organic food. Another great restaurant which one must visit is the riverside Lucky Restaurant.   

Be vegetarian as non-vegetarian food items are banned in this part of the country. You might want to opt for health food restaurants which offer all kinds of vegetarian items.

Adventure enthusiasts can opt for rock climbing and cliff climbing under the guidance of experts. Rappelling – that is, climbing down the cliffs can also be undertaken by tourists. For people who like to wear their heart on their sleeves, bungee jumping can also be organized at Jumpin Height, few kilometres from Camp Gold Coast. 

If you thought adventure sports is all that Camp Gold Coast offers then you are wrong. You can find innumerable places in and around the town to learn Ayurveda and also opt to receive massage after a tiring day at the water. That is not all! You can also opt to learn yoga from an expert in and around the Camp Gold Coast or Rishikesh. Titled the ‘Yoga Capital of the World’, not learning a few ‘asanas’ would make your trip to Camp Gold Coast futile; hence, make sure you book a healing session of Yoga at the many Yoga schools dotting the town. Few of the popular ones are the Vinyasa Yoga School, Association of Yoga and Meditation, Himalayan Yoga Academy and VedNiketan Ashram.

For music lovers, there is the Veena Maharaja Music School in Rishikesh. You can relax by surrounding yourself with the performances of classical musicians who adorn the school. For interested tourists, there are a number of music classes organized at Bhuwan Chandra Music School, RishikeshYogSadhana and Kirti Hermitage.

Camp Gold Coast is a great destination for family travellers as it offers something for everyone. Though children under the age of 12 are not allowed to participate in rafting with the adults, they can opt for kayaking and swimming in the calmer waters of the river. Children can also be sent hiking to the surrounding forest area under the supervision of the guides from the camp. But for this to happen, prior notice is required.

While at Camp Gold Coast, you are never away from the religious sites of Rishikesh and one of the most revered sites is the TriveniGhat. Known as the confluence site for three of the holy rivers – that is, the Ganges, the Yamuna and the Saraswati, TriveniGhat is visited by hundreds and hundreds of pilgrims from around the world. While at the ghat, do not miss the daily evening ‘aarti’ known as the ‘MahaAarti’ when the devotees offer prayers to the almighty.

The ghat houses a number of temples such as the Gita Mandir and the Lakshminarayan Temple which can be visited during your visit to TriveniGhat. 

Another destination on the banks of the River Ganges, it is a complex consisting of over 1000 rooms which are available to devotees free of charge. Most pilgrims stay here to listen to the daily religious discourses and the programs which are held on a daily basis. The pilgrims not only get a place to stay here but are also provided with daily vegetarian food.
