How To Reach Andhra Pradesh
Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport is the biggest airport of Andhra. Hyderabad, which is state’s joint capital until 2024, is the state’s most well-connected city and is the best way to reach Andhra Pradesh by air. It is quite easy to fly into Andhra from most of India’s major cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Bengaluru and Chennai. There are a number of daily flights, direct and indirect, which operate between Hyderabad and these cities.
Additionally, Hyderabad also enjoys direct connectivity with international destinations like Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Dubai, Bahrain, Riyadh, Kuwait, Malaysia, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and Sri Lanka. Inaugurated in 2008, the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport sits 24km south of Hyderabad. There’s a special airport bus service, Pushpak Airport Liner, which operates between the airport and various points within Hyderabad city. Radio taxis are also easily available from the airport to take you into the city. Finally, you can rent a car and drive yourself into Hyderabad city.
From Hyderabad, you will find a number of trains and buses that will take you to any part of Andhra Pradesh. Alternately, you can either hire a taxi or choose to drive yourself around. Renting a car is easy and it is one of the best ways to discover Andhra Pradesh at leisure.
The Hyderabad Deccan Railway Station, also known as Nampally Station, is the busiest railway station of Hyderabad. It is a part of South-Central Railways. It connects Andhra Pradesh with the rest of the country. If you’re travelling to Andhra Pradesh by train, Hyderabad is the central rail hub of the state. It handles daily trains from major Indian cities like Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, Delhi and Kolkata.
Interestingly, it is one of the only few railway stations in India to be fully powered by solar energy! It is located close to the city’s icons like Charminar, Salar Jung Museum and Hyderguda. Once you reach Hyderabad, you continue your journey across the state by train that will take you to your desired destination. If you’d rather continue by road, the Hyderabad Bus Stand is around 20 minutes away from the station.
A road trip is a fun way to reach your destination, like a holiday before the holiday. Andhra Pradesh is covered by a network of around 4400 km of National Highways. The roads are wide well-maintained and clearly marked with signs. This means you won’t get lost and you won’t have to stop to ask for directions. On the other hand, if you want the complete Andhra experience, simply hop on to an Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) bus which will take you around in air-conditioned comfort.
National Highway 16, NH 326 and NH 326A will bring you into Andhra from Odisha, while NH 26 and NH 30 come in from Chattisgarh. If you drive in from Telangana, you can choose between NH 44, NH 65, NH 565 and NH 765. Karnataka is connected with Andhra Pradesh by NH 42, NH 69, NH 75 and NH 167. Tamil Nadu connects with the state via NH 40, NH 205, NH 219, NH 716 and NH 234.

By Bus
The Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation is the state-owned bus service which covers the entire state with regular, luxury, semi-luxury and air-conditioned buses. Apart from these there are many private bus operators servicing major routes.
By Taxi
While a taxi is more convenient than a bus, it is much more expensive which makes it an ideal mode of travel over short distances. Andhra has intracity radio taxis and cab aggregators in addition to private operators. If you’re hiring a private taxi, make sure to negotiate the fare before your journey starts.
By Car
You can either get around in your own car or hire one in any of Andhra’s cities. However, do note that not all the cities will have a car hire service. So do confirm with your hotel before making any plans. It is also recommended that you enquire about local driving conditions while booking your hotel. But driving to get around won’t be a problem since most of the roads here are wide and smooth.
By Autorickshaws
Autorickshaws do not operate between cities. However, within a city, they can prove to be the quickest way to get around, dodging through the traffic. Check whether they operate by the meter or settle on the fare before getting in.
